Videos:

The Little Mermaid

This scene was taken from Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid where Eric finally met Ariel after she was transformed from a mermaid into a human being. We can see in the video that Ariel (because she was voiceless and couldn’t speak) is trying to interpret her words into actions. Thus, doing hand gestures to make Eric understand her point.

The Little Mermaid

This is another scene from Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid where Ariel was dining with Eric and his royal adviser, Grimsby. She was trying to practice the use of human objects which she was completely ignorant about and unfamiliar of. Using the fork as a hairbrush and using a pipe as a musical instrument, she wanted to try these things on her own. Unfortunately, she failed to impress the two gentlemen she was dining with. If only she could speak, then she wouldn’t be having a hard time embarrassing herself in front of the prince. She could have just asked instead of doing body movements.

The Little Match Girl

This animated short is done without any verbal communication. The little match girl sells her match sticks by lifting them towards the passersby on the streets while snow was falling from the sky. Such body movements that were portrayed by the girl explain to us that she was in need of comfort and of warmth and was desperate for her match sticks to be sold.

Kneeling

Marriage Proposal

Marriage Proposal

Kneeling is one of the most common kinds of body motions. For religious people, it is a gesture that denotes adoration and worship to God. For lovers, kneeling is an action that is usually done when a guy proposes to his girlfriend. Kneeling is most often done in marriage proposals, signifying the gentleman’s love for his lady and for the permission to enter into the next stage of their relationship.

A Slap on the Face

A slap on the face symbolizes a response to an offense. If the offended or insulted person grows angry and negatively affected in a communication, that person sometimes responds through the use of slapping, another popular type of body motion. This is usually done when two people disagree with each other in a communication which would eventually evolve into a conflict.

Kiss

True Love's Kiss

True Love’s Kiss

A kiss is a gesture of love and affection. People say that it consummates one’s relationship with someone. Others say that it is the most powerful thing in the world. A true love’s kiss can undo any spell, can end hatred in a relationship, and can resolve any forms of  conflict. In the photo, the Prince kissed Snow White on her coffin. The kiss symbolizes the Prince’s love for her even up to her death. To profess his deep love for Snow White, instead of intoning a verbal dialogue of saying, “I love you,” the Prince chose to kiss her instead.
